Course Description: Mechanical design of micro-electronmechanical systems (MEMS). Device modeling: lumped parameter models; energy methods; nonlinearities; electrical and mechanical noise sources. Actuation and measurement methods: capacitive, piezoresistive, thermal, piezoelectric, and optical techniques. Review of basic electronics: bridge circuits, amplitude modulation; lock-in detection.

Course Description: Overview of the mechanical properties of the various tissues in the musculoskeletal system, the relationship of these properties to anatomic and histologic structure, and the changes in these properties caused by aging and disease. Course Description: Occurrence, mechanisms, and prediction of fatigue and fracture phenomenon. Use of stress and strain to predict crack initiation.
